Houston McCoy, former APD officer who shot Charles Whitman, dies at 72
Houston McCoy, one of the police officers who helped put a stop to the 1966 massacre on the The University of Texas' Forty Acres, has died, according to the Austin Police Department. McCoy fired his shotgun at Whitman, hitting him in the face just as another officer, Ramiro Martinez, shot Whitman with his service weapon.
