Nestande found guilty of criminally negligent homicide

After 21 hours of deliberation, a Travis County jury found Gabrielle Nestande guilty of criminally negligent homicide, but not guilty of failure to stop and render aid, in the hit-and-run death of Courtney Griffin on May 27, 2011. The jury also ruled Nestande used her vehicle as a deadly weapon in the incident, which could raise her punishment from a maximum of two years, to a maximum of ten years, in prison. As the punishment phase of the trial got underway, Griffin's father called the past 21 months a continuing nightmare, while Nestande's father detailed how his daughter's behavior has changed since the accident. The punishment hearing resumes Friday at 9:00 a.m.
