Dance performance moved after theatre floods
A Puerto Rican dance event was forced move after the historic State Theatre on Congress Avenue flooded two weeks ago.
The dance and music was as colorful and exciting as ever at this year's Celebrando. The 20th century Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance moved to the McCullough Theatre on the University of Texas campus with a smaller audience turnout than years past.
"They've helped us out with the issue of flooding. We have no complaints from the State Theatre. And hopefully if the State Theatre is up and running we're going to go back,” dance teacher Rose Itizarry said.
A modern dance company was scheduled for a State Theatre performance on July 9 that has also been moved to the UT campus.
The State Theatre flooded after a water main broke in the alleyway behind the theater. Theatre managers think two or three months of repairs are needed on the building.
