On any beautiful Sunday morning, you might find yourself walking past a few flexible people balancing their bodies off one another near Barton Springs.

One of those able bodies will likely be personal trainer Randal Setzler, who is among several in Austin incorporating partner balance into their workout routines.

"A couple of yogis got together with gymnastic backgrounds and started playing with contact yoga," Setzler said. "It's a mix of yoga, Thai massage and acrobatics."

While partner balance is not a new discipline, Setzler is trying to spread the word locally. Setzler said it builds personal awareness and trust with another human being.

"I really found a connection with myself, but also a way that I develop trust and interaction with my partners," Setzler said.

Partner Balance utilizes bone stacking and alignment to overcome strength. Setzler said anyone can do it well with enough practice.

"It's pretty easy, if you take it slow," Setzler said.

Communication is a major component to partner balance.

"I would say trust and connection are the two biggest things when considering what could go wrong with partner balance," Setzler said.

There are many physical benefits and partner balance can be a challenge, but above all, Setzler said this type of exercise is easy to enjoy.

"Just to kind of be upside down or be a little funny or be outside your comfort zone, even just slightly, with friends or partners or things like that," Setzler said. "It's kind of fun."

Setzler invites anyone interested in partner balance to e-mail him for more information at RandalSetzler@CrossFitCentral.com.
