Live fire demonstration stresses importance of fire safety

The
Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum teamed up with the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office for a fire safety demonstration in the museum’s parking lot Saturday.
Two identical rooms were set on fire to show the impact a residential sprinkler can have.
Everyone got a firsthand lesson on how to duck down to avoid smoke, and the importance of having an exit strategy.
Many parents brought their children to teach them fire safety and prevention.
"I'm really proud of the city for doing this, and they said they've never done this before, and they didn't know exactly how it would go, but it was really eye-opening and educational for all of us. So I'm glad we made it," parent Karen Wimmer said.
Firefighters from the Austin Fire Department were on scene for the potentially lifesaving presentation.
