A man accused in the murder of a young woman in East Austin in 2009 attended a pre-trial hearing Tuesday.
Kenneth Hernandez and his wife stand accused of luring 21-year-old Christy Espinosa away from downtown Austin during Mardi Gras in 2009.
Prosecutors said they killed her, set her body on fire and dumped it in East Austin.
In court Tuesday, Hernandez's attorney tried to get some of his client's statements thrown out of court. The judge denied that request.
Hernandez's defense attorney said his client will be found not guilty, once the jury hears his side of the story.
"The facts are unpleasant, but we think there is a story that will come out about Kenneth and his involvement in this case that's going to be a little bit different than the public has perceived, up until this point," defense attorney Keith Lauerman said
Martha Medina-Hernandez is also charged with murder. Her trial will be held first.
She is due back in court Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing.
