School is just a few weeks away and so is football season.

While the football teams are gearing up, so are the bands that support them. High school bands across the state are working just as hard as those athletes to get their routines down.

At Akins High School, band members practice from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week.

“This has been the easiest summer since I’ve been teaching,” Akins High School band leader Gary Faust said. “The kids have water. They’re in shape. More importantly, they enjoy this activity, and they know that they have to work harder to achieve the goals that we’ve set for them.”

The Akins Eagles first football game is August 27 against the Hays Rebels, in Buda.
