A red carpet outside The Long Center filled up quickly with fashion and flashing lights Saturday evening, as designers, makeup artists, photographers and other artists took pictures and awaited the results of the Austin Fashion Awards.
The awards show was the final event in a week packed with fashion shows, trunk shows and parties. The show included stylings from designers like Project Runway Season 2 winner Chloe Dao, and recognized local artists based on votes from critics, online visitors and peers. Designers who came out for last year's first-ever Fashion Week were impressed with how much it's grown since then.
"It's definitely a lot bigger," photographer Chad Harlan said. "[Last year,] many people heard about this maybe a little too late, because it was the first one. I said, 'I know next year's going to be so much bigger.' And I think I was right."
Harlan clinched the title of "Best Photographer: Critics Choice" last year. He was nominated this year for the same award, as well as "Best Photographer: Peoples' Choice", along with receiving an award for photoshop editing. He said the awards give businesses some additional credibility, and that could grow as the event does.
"This year, it's more people who aren't even in fashion are hearing about it and are seeing stuff on TV and all that," Harlan said.
The Austin Fashion Awards list was updated as each winner was announced.
