Four humans lean over a table, paying close attention as they listen for a quiet snarl. Before they know it, that snarl has turned into a startling growl as a zombie charges toward them, knocking over soda cans and piles of paper as he searches for food.
The only way to stop the creatures from hunting their prey is hearing Jarrett Crippen say, "very nice job." Crippen is the director of Scare for a Cure.
This is the fifth year that the organization has raised money for cancer charities through a themed haunted house. On Sunday, people of all ages were auditioning for a part as a zombie.
"2010 is the year of the zombie," Crippen said. "We've done crazy carnivals; we've
done vampires; we've done psychotic serial killers; so this year I thought it was just fit for zombies."
This year's haunted house theme is "H1Z1: Zombie Wasteland," and it raises money for the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas. Scare for the Cure is still on the hunt for people to play zombies, lab scientists and survivors of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The last set of auditions will be held Sunday, Sept. 19 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Galaxy Dance Studios at 1700 S. Lamar Blvd. The haunted house will be open beginning Oct. 14 at 7400 Coldwater Canyon Dr.
