Can social networking help encourage people to recycle?

That's what developers of a new app called "RecyclePix" are hoping.

After downloading the app, users login via Facebook or Twitter and take shots of someone doing something related to recycling.

Taking the picture alone earns a user 10 RecyclePix points. Posting it to Facebook, encouraging others to recycle too, earns an additional 15 points. Send the picture off to Twitter and that's another five points.

The goal is to get as many points as possible because once a user earns around 100 points, they start to become worth real amounts for real things, like discounts at restaurants or hotels.

The app allows users to check out pictures others are sending in for some inspiration as well. "RecyclePix" is a free download for both iPhones and Androids.

“Love Is Not Abuse”

For parents who've caved and decided to give their teens mobile devices, here's an eerie app that helps understand how harsh some of teen's classmates can be via the virtual world.

"Love Is Not Abuse" by Liz Claiborne Inc. not only gives parents tips on what to do about digital abuse, how to spot it and how to get help if they think it's going on, but it also can put a parent right in the middle of it.

If a user of the app puts in their cell phone number and email address, a Digital Dating Abuse Simulator will send messages and links from a fictional boyfriend or girlfriend harassing the subscriber throughout the day and night.

"Love Is Not Abuse" is right now an iPhone only app and doles out abuse for no charge.
