With all the talk about water rate hikes and high gas prices, you might be thinking about how to save a buck.

From clothes to house wares, second-hand stores like Thrift Town in South Austin carry a wide variety of items for a growing trend of buyers.

Gina Nielsen with Thrift Town said perception surrounding thrift has changed.

"In the past there's been just this stigma about thrift and that's just not the case,” she said. “The way the economy has made the turn over the past few years, thrift is very socially acceptable, and you're going to find great quality products here."

Not all of those products are used. Nielsen said shoppers will often find new items.
