Disc golfers in the Austin area now have a new place to call their own.
The Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course opened Saturday and drew a large crowd of excited players. It's Austin’s first new disc golf park in 20 years.
The course is replacing Pease Park which was closed in 2010 for a water project.
City officials decided it was time to create a new disc golf course after the sport began to grow in popularity.
"It's a really momentous day for the sport of disc golf,” Disc Nation founder Damon Neth said. “Really what it means to the disc golf community is affirmation that disc golf has a permanent home here in Austin."
The design and construction of the 18-hole course cost $325,000. Funding came from the Park Land Development fund.
The course is now the fifth one operated by the City.
