A family-friendly free festival is drawing a large Independence Day crowd to Killeen Wednesday.

Fort Hood’s Freedom Fest kicked off at 1 p.m., offering an expected crowd of about 100,000 a carnival, concert and fireworks display, all in celebration of Independence Day.

"It's just a great fun event for everybody,” Jade Coleman with Family MWR Marketing said. “Families can enjoy it. People of all ages can come out and we have food vendors."

The list of vendors includes many military family groups hoping to raise money to fund their year-round programs.

"We have so many different things we have to pay for. We have holiday dinners, any kind of unit function that we have for any time our soldiers are deployed,” Staff Sgt. Mary Finoa said.

Freedom Fest is one of post’s largest fundraisers of the year.

"It's wonderful for us to be out here and with all of our other soldiers supporting each other and supporting our country," Staff Sgt. Finoa said.

Wednesday’s festival will be headlined by a fireworks display and a performance by the original “American Idol” Kelly Clarkson.

YNN Meteorologist is at the festival. See what she saw in the video below.
