Pflugerville ISD to offer benefits to same-sex, domestic partners
A breakthrough for same sex and heterosexual domestic partners is coming in Pflugerville.
The school district is set to be the first in Central Texas to offer insurance benefits, after the idea was recommended by an insurance benefits advisory committee.
Pflugerville ISD is self insured, and is working with Humana to facilitate the benefits.
The school board didn't need to vote on the issue. Employees can start enrolling Oct. 15 and their benefits will start the first of January.
National and Texas education groups didn't know if any other school district in Texas will follow suit.
