A popular Taco Cabana could be the next victim of an apartment tower just south of downtown.

Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope said developers hope to take down the Taco Cabana at South Lamar and Riverside Drive to open a mid-rise apartment tower. The Paggi House was also in the original plan, but restaurant owners say they plan to stay.

There is already a building of luxury apartments just across the way, and those residents’ view would suffer if a new tower is built. However, Pope says that is the nature of urban growth.
