While Central Texas may be no Napa Valley, the wine industry continues to grow, particularly in the Hill Country.

Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope say there are about 30 area wineries available for tasting tours. It’s a decent number considering starting a winery takes a lot of patience. Sometimes it can take up to 10 years before any real profits are achieved.
There are also some downsides to growing grapes in Central Texas. For one, the blazing sun and heat isn’t always ideal for growth. However, there is rich soil in the area that some say Napa wineries would love to have.
