A recent deal between Austin-based KLD Energy and a Chinese car company could mean a new chapter for the local tech firm.

KLD Energy, a company of about 40 employees based in Northeast Austin, has developed what they call a transmission-less drive motor system which has seen use in the scooter world.

According to Colin Pope with the Austin Business Journal, the recent deal inked with a Chinese company will move the state-of-the-art motors into electric cars, essentially opening Austin-based KLD Energy into the burgeoning electric car market.
