Castro twins make state Dem convention a family affair

They look alike, they talk alike, and on Friday night, the Castro brothers will hit the stage at the state Democratic convention.
Many agree San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and his twin brother, US Congress candidate Joaquin Castro, are the rising stars of Texas’ Democratic Party.
"Looking back on it, it's not surprising that Joaquin and I would want to get involved in politics, but it wasn't a straight journey here because I didn't always want to get involved," Joaquin said.
Joaquin Castro has been a state representative since 2003, but still can be easily mistaken for his mayoral brother.
"I'm a minute younger than he is. I tell people I'm a little bit better looking than he is," Joaquin said.
Neither will say what may lie in their political futures and insist they remain focused on their current positions. However, the brothers agree the focus of this weekend’s convention is to move the party forward.
"The good news for the Democrats is this is the best it's ever going to get for Republicans. We're only going to get stronger from here," Julian said.
Joaquin says the seemingly-divided Republican Party could end up helping Democrats in the end.
"The Texas Republican Party is moving so far to the right that so many people feel like the Republican Party is leaving them behind, and we certainly intend to capitalize on that," he said.
The Castro brothers will speak at 8 p.m. Friday night in Houston. Joaquin is introducing his brother, who is the convention's featured speaker.
