As the Democratic State Convention wraps up in Houston, the focus has stayed on the future, not the past, and how Texas Democrats can turn the state blue.
With no statewide win in nearly 20 years, it’s been a discouraging time to be on the left side of the aisle in the Lone Star State, but the party has a newly elected leader at the helm, one who says he has a plan.
Gilberto Hinojosa is the first Hispanic state chair to be elected. He says they need to work on the growing number of Hispanic voters to the polls
“I understand better than most out there that are in Democratic Party politics where the issues are with respect to that, where we can make some inroads, what are the strategies we can develop to increase the turnout in the Latino population," the Democratic Party Chair Elect said.
He says it's about better organizing around statewide candidates, such as Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Paul Sadler.
"The future of our party begins in this room and it begins now," San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said.
