Capital Tonight: Texas Democrats and Republicans rally at state conventions
With many of the most high-profile races far from over, including US Senate primaries in both the Republican and Democratic parties, both parties are meeting this weekend for their state conventions.
Some say for Republicans the race is one between the establishment and the Tea Party. And, Gov. Rick Perry is at the center of the fight.
For Democrats, the discussion this weekend is about the future of their party in Texas. Longtime chairman Boyd Richie is stepping down, and a new chair will be elected on Saturday.
We spoke to Richie Thursday and he told us the advice he'd like to leave with the Texas Democratic Party.
"Don't lose faith. It's a long, hard battle, but you have to engage everyday and do your part. And in the end we will ultimately be successful," Richie said.
Alana Rocha and Karina Kling followed the below reports.

We spoke with David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz Thursday. We asked both candidates about Gov. Perry being booed by some Cruz supporters during his speech.
"I'm very proud of our broad support all across the state of Texas. We've got support from Tea Partiers, we've got support from grassroots, we've got support from businessmen and women, soccer moms, we've got support from everybody," Dewhurst told us. "So this comes down, quite frankly Paul, to a clear choice between a lifelong conservative businessman who has worked with Gov. Perry and worked with the legislature and created the Texas economic miracle, the strongest state economy in the entire country, and a slick lawyer who's been supported by some Washington special interests."
When asked if the boos showed a divided Texas Republican Party, Cruz acknowledged that the GOP is facing a choice.
"This Senate runoff has been called Ground Zero in the battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party. It is Ground Zero in the battle between the moderate establishment all of which has circled the wagons around David Dewhurst, and the conservative tidal wave that is sweeping this country," Cruz said. "Texans are looking for new leadership."
