Federal Emergency agents are in Steiner Ranch this weekend to help fire victims with their disaster claims. FEMA officials urge all residents affected by the mega blaze that destroyed 24 homes to register with the agency. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

It's been just over a week since a large grass fire ripped through the Steiner Ranch neighborhood in West Travis County, destroying 24 homes. Now that the blaze is 100 percent contained, residents who lost everything are sifting through rubble to see what's left.

According to officials, Travis County Constable Cpl. Kevin Aigner began feeling ill and had difficulty breathing while serving residents of Steiner Ranch. Aigner was taken by StarFlight to the Seton Medical Center where he passed away.

Fire crews in ESD6 said 162 acres burned, 23 homes were destroyed, 3 homes sustained structural damage and 28 properties had exterior, non-structural damage (landscape/wood privacy fence, etc.).

The Steiner Ranch fire is now 75 percent contained, according to officials on Wednesday. Residents who were evacuated from the subdivision have since returned and are now working to get things back to normal.

The fire at Steiner Ranch has destroyed 25 homed and damaged 20 others, according to Austin’s Mayor Lee Leffingwell. Officials have a list of the damaged and destroyed homes at Vandegrift High School and will only release information to those with photo ID with a matching address.

According to Austin Energy, power has now been restored to all circuits serving Steiner Ranch. Homes damaged by fire have been isolated to keep power from flowing to them.

Full press conference: During a press conference Sunday night, representatives with several Travis County emergency services agencies got the community up to speed on the massive wildfires ripping through the area. So far, 25 homes in Steiner Ranch and two homes in Pflugerville have been lost in Sunday's fires. Three firefighters have suffered minor injuries. Officials are bracing for similar dry and windy conditions Monday.
