Austin is home to thousands of non-profit organizations who make it their mission to help, but where do those non-profits go when they need assistance?
Greenlights for Nonprofit Success is an Austin-based nonprofit which provides service to nonprofits seeking guidance.
"Nonprofits provide so much service and often times they lack the support and resources they need, so Greenlights fills that gap," Greenlights’ President and Executive Director Matt Kouri said.
This group will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and shows no sign of slowing down.
"We get to see nonprofit sector from a birds-eye view. We get to see the richness and diversity of what's done here," he said.
With thousands of nonprofits in the Central Texas area, Kouri said we may have reached a saturation point and creating a new nonprofit may not always be the most effective way to help.
"We usually encourage them to first investigate whether there's something that already exists out there and can be a channel for their passion and maybe come on board with that group of people," he said.
Greenlights offers financial advisors to help similar nonprofits decide if it's best to merge.
"We think nonprofits owe it to the community, donors and supporters, to find the most effective way to use community dollars to achieve their mission," Kouri said.
It's all in an effort to help those who do good do an even better job.
Whether it's the local environment or world hunger, everyday people are working to make the world a better place. Every Wednesday YNN's Jennifer Borget shares the stories of Central Texans who have dedicated their lives to making a difference.
