The railroad is a part of Temple's past and present.
"The railroad brought a tremendous amount to Central Texas, especially Temple," Museum Director Judy Covington said. "It brought medical culture. It brought diversity to the area. It brought technology to the area."
Founded in 1973, the Railroad and Heritage Museum set forth to collect, preserve and showcase the history of the railroad in Central Texas.
As part of the museum, visitors will see railroad equipment as well as objects once found on the trains.
The museum's rolling stock collection displayed outside includes a 1921 Pacific Type Baldwin steam locomotive, along with a 1913 Pullman sleeping car among others.
