Del Valle High School receives state recognition

AISD to remove toxic coal tar

The city banned certain cancer-causing coal tar in 2006, but it still exists on many school campuses in Austin. The Oak Hill Gazette is reporting that work will begin to remove the tar on seven AISD playgrounds and 60 school parking lots, which is about half of the district's schools.

YNN reported Monday that Huston-Tillotson student Delisha Thomas achieved one of the top four LSAT scores in the country. A spokesperson with Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s office said Tuesday a letter inviting Thomas to be honored by Duncan was fake.

Monday, AISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen announced the district's decision to extend the opt-out deadline for the controversial IDEA charter program. The school board also revealed its preliminary budget for the 2012-2013 school year, and applied for a waiver for this year’s STARR grades.
