Immunization Requirements for the 2010-2011 School Year
Texas law requires that most school children get fully immunized before they can be admitted to schools. Starting in the 2009-2010, three new vaccinations are recommended for Seventh graders, including one for meningitis. All vaccine doses administered less than or equal to four days before the minimum interval of age shall be counted as valid.
3-year-olds and 4-year-olds (PRE K)
- Four doses of DTP, DTaP, DT
- Three doses of Polio
- One dose of MMR on/after first birthday
- One dose of HIB* on/after 15 months or three doses with the third dose given on/after 1st birthday, and at least two months since dose #2
- One dose of PCV* on/or after 24 months of age OR 4 doses of PCV with one given after first birthday
- Three doses of Hepatitis B
- One dose of Varicella on/after first birthday (if the child has NOT had chickenpox)
- Two doses of Hepatitis A on/after first birthday (must allow 18 months between doses)
*HIB and PCV7 not routinely administered to children younger than five years old.
Kindergarten through First Grade
- Five doses of DTP, DTaP, DT with one on/after fourth birthday or four doses if one dose is on/after the fourth birthday
- Four doses of Polio with one on/after fourth birthday or three doses if one dose is on/after fourth birthday
- Two doses of MMR on/after first birthday
- Three doses of Hepatitis B
- Two doses of Varicella on/after first birthday (if the child has NOT had chickenpox)
- Two doses of Hepatitis A on/after 1st birthday (must allow 18 months between doses)
- Ages 7 and up
- Three doses of DTP containing vaccine with one dose on/after fourth birthday.
Second Grade through Sixth Grade
- Five doses of DTP, DTaP, DT, Td, Tdap with one on/after fourth birthday or four doses if one dose is on/after the fourth birthday
- Four doses of Polio with one on/after fourth birthday or three doses if one dose is on/after fourth birthday
- Two doses of Measles, one dose of Mumps and one dose of Rubella on/after first birthday
- Three doses of Hepatitis B
- One dose of Varicella on/after first birthday (if the child has NOT had chickenpox)
- Ages 7 and up
- Three doses of DTP containing vaccine with one dose on/after fourth birthday
Seventh Grade
- Three doses of DTP, DTaP, DT, Td, Tdap with one on/after fourth birthday, one dose of Tdap is required within the last five years. Td is acceptable in lieu of Tdap if a contraindication to Pertussis exists
- Four doses of Polio with one on/after fourth birthday OR three doses if one dose is on/after fourth birthday
- Two doses of Measles, one dose of Mumps and one dose of Rubella on/after first birthday
- Three doses of Hepatitis B
- Two doses of Varicella on/after first birthday (if the child has NOT had chickenpox)
- One dose of Meningococcal
Eighth Grade
- Three doses of DTP, DTaP, DT, Td, Tdap with one on/after fourth birthday
