Willie Nelson made a stop at Austin's Riverbend Centre Sunday.
Nelson has performed several concerts at Riverbend Church to help raise funds for Dr. Gerald Mann's ministries. Church officials say despite the musician's outlaw personae, he's no red-headed stranger to church life.
"When he started his career, he was actually teaching a Sunday school class in Dallas, Texas. There was some conflict in the church that people didn't agree with him playing in a bar on Sunday night and then teaching on Sunday morning," Riverbend spokesperson Carlton Dillard said.
Sunday's performance wasn't Nelson's only fundraiser this weekend. He also held a celebrity golf tournament Saturday, raising funds for a number of Central Texas nonprofits.
