Council gives go-ahead to second ACL weekend
The live music may continue a second weekend at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Thursday, the Austin City Council approved the fest's host, C3 Present’s, request to extend the fest an extra three days. The motion was passed 5-0, with Spelman off the dais.
C3 representatives said the extension would help area parks, including millions of dollars to renovate Auditorium Shores.
The council struck language from the ACL Fest resolution that would have allowed Circuit of the Americas to host a ‘Formula Fest’ live music concert at Auditorium Shores without public discussion.
"I think there is a feeling around the dais that this is a long-term issue that we need to resolve, so in the end all of these places can be busy all at the same time,” Long Center CEO Jamie Grant said. “It needs to be clear: the infrastructure doesn't exist today to do that.”
If given the final approval, the fest would go to two weekends in 2013.
