Actor Johnny Depp spends much of his time overseas now, but his acting roots trace back to some time in Austin. You won't actually see him in the new film "Rango," but you will hear his voice, in Western form.
"Rango" tells the animated story of a lizard dropped off in the Wild West. It might sound like a stretch, but Depp said he knows a thing or two about life in the Southwest and even says Austin used to be his second home.
"I used to spend a lot of time in Austin, the Continental Club and where old Antone's used to be," Depp said. "Antone's Records is the best record shop in the world. I was turned on to Austin in 1992. I think it was when I was doing 'Gilbert Grape.' We shot down there."
YNN's Victor Diaz sat down with Depp and has more in Friday's "Cinema Spotlight."
