The man who called the shots for "Captain America" hails from Austin.

Director Joe Johnston was born and raised in the Deep Eddy neighborhood before moving to California. His newest project, "Captain America: The First Avenger," was shot in the United Kingdom.

Johnston is a rare Austin-born Academy Award winner. He earned an Oscar in 1982 for best visual effects in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

YNN's Victor Diaz caught up Johnston and asked if he was a fan of "Captain America" comics as child in Austin.

"I was not. I didn't grow up reading this comic book. I wasn't really a fan which I consider an advantage because I can be totally objective about it now and pick the parts that I like but I did a lot of research when I agreed to do this movie and I read every one of the comic books," Johnston said.

"Captain America" opens Friday in theaters everywhere.
