Austin Goes Classical features some of the most prestigious guitarists from 25 countries around the world.

These artists are bringing a new sound and culture to the city that already has a renowned reputation as a great music town.

Convention host Matthew Hinsley is a well respected classical guitarist and instructor. He said this convention is a good place to learn about new things.

"I think this a great platform for the international community to come here and see what we can do, and for our community to come here and see what we can do with classical music,” he said.

Hinsley said the sounds of the convention have a lot to offer music lovers.

"We're playing modern music. We’re playing ancient music. We’re playing music from time periods in between, all cultures, and we have people from all over the world here. We're pairing it with string quartets; we're pairing it with the biscuit brothers, what could be better?" he said.

You can expect to see Pepe Romero, Ronn McFarlane, Katona Twins and many more artists this weekend.

The convention is also hosting an international competition that has players vying for a grand prize concert tour around the globe and a recording contract.

It wraps up on Sunday with the competition finals. Festival organizers say it’s an event you won’t want to miss.
