K-NACK 107.7, Austin’s first alternative rock radio station, may be gone but it is far from forgotten.
This weekend, ND Studios in East Austin will be hosting a celebration for the radio station’s 20th anniversary. Powering up for the first time on Halloween of 1991, the station provided many local bands their first chance to hear their music over the airwaves.
“It was an interesting time, you know, music was changing. Locally, radio was different, the music scene was changing at the end of the 80s and heading into the 90s,” former K-NACK DJ Ray Seggern said. “Bands that you would see at the Electric Lounge, Emo’s or the Black Cat were represented on K-NACK’s playlist.”
Musicians associated with the historic station are slated to hit the stage at ND Studios over the next couple of nights. For more information, click here.
