Our Andy Langer was invited to speak with Willie Nelson on his tour bus. Watch in the video above. Stick around for a report produced by our Jeff Stensland who was in attendence.

A new eight-foot statue of Willie Nelson was fittingly unveiled Friday afternoon, shortly after 4:20 p.m.

The Austin music icon was there to see the monument himself, and even gave a free concert to a massive crowd of about 1000 people which filled Lavaca Street for the occasion.

Nelson performed his classic “On the Road Again” and one of his new songs, “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die."

Earlier --Austin is paying tribute to one of its most iconic musicians Friday.

A bronze statue of the one-and-only Willie Nelson will be unveiled on Willie Nelson Boulevard near Moody Theater at 4 p.m. Friday.

Nelson himself will be there to welcome the new, privately-funded, monument.

Sculptor Clete Shields hopes everyone who passes by the statue will be reminded of Nelson’s impact on Texas music.

“I hope they take away fondness for Willie, I hope they take away all that he has given us through the years and continues to give us,” he said. “I hope they will get some joy from it and go home and listen to his CDs.”

The statue dedication is purposely taking place this Friday, or 4-20, which is the national day of protest for the legalization of marijuana.
