As the Circuit of The Americas track southeast of Austin continues to race toward completion, uncertainty remains around some of the race-inspired outlying events.

On Tuesday, COTA officials met with Travis County Commissioner regarding the first event to be held at the track, the Formula Run 5K.

The county leaders approved the permit for the event, but neighbors are still wary of the 5K race as it could draw as many as 10,000 people.

"The residents that are trying to get to work on Saturday at 7 a.m., are they going to be held up?” track neighbor Hershel Lee said. “How is that going to work?"

The 5K will be an important test run for the facility and organizers. If issues arise, they can be corrected before the big race.

"We anticipate having a traffic control officer placed at that intersection to assist with traffic control," COTA spokesperson Aaron Nathan said. "We can analyze the Circuit significantly but until we actually have events, I can't provide certainty."

The "Formula Run" event will be held on Nov. 3. It's a chance for runners and families alike to check out the Circuit of The Americas race track.
