Local officials from across the Central Texas region met in East Austin Friday to iron out their Formula One action plans, particularly when it comes to transit on race weekend. The U.S. Grand Prix is set to make its first mark in Austin Nov. 18. More than 72,000 people are expected to attend.

F1 races towards Austin: As the Formula 1 cars zipped around the tight corners of the Silverstone Circuit Sunday, city officials were sizing up the effect of the race on the local economy. The British Grand Prix's long history in Silverstone has brought several F1 teams to the area as permanent fixtures, something Austin's city leaders said they hope will have a similar impact.

F1 races towards Austin: Traffic and inclement weather kept Austin's city officials away from the track Friday, but it was a different story Saturday. Police Chief Art Acevedo and Rodney Gonzales, the city’s Deputy Director of Economic Development, took a tour of the track’s emergency facilities in Silverstone. Gonzales said their setup is similar to the one planned at the Circuit of the Americas.
