New public forum to discuss Rocha death
A second public hearing will be held this week to discuss the police shooting death of Daniel Rocha last June.
The 18 year old was shot to death by Officer Julie Schroeder during a traffic stop.
In August, a grand jury cleared Schroeder of any criminal charges.
This is the second public forum since Rocha's death. APD hosted the first one a week after the shooting.
The Police Oversight Citizen Review Panel hosts the new discussion. The volunteer panel is charged with providing an independent civilian review of APD actions resulting in serious bodily injury or death, as well as reviewing citizen complaints regarding officer misconduct.
Participants will consider public testimony before making a resolution about the police investigation into Rocha's death. The panel will then present its findings to Police Chief Stan Knee.
The hearing will be held Monday at Austin City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m.
Those who want to speak must sign up between 3 and 6 p.m. outside the City Council Chambers.
