The Austin police chief has taken disciplinary action against two officers over a police shooting on June 9.

Officer Julie Schroeder has been fired for the shooting death of 18-year-old Daniel Rocha.

Her supervisor at the time, Sgt. Don Doyle, was given a 28-day suspension.

Rocha was shot in the back at close range by Schroeder during a police stop in Southeast Austin.

Chief Stan Knee made the decision based on recommendations by the Austin Police Monitor’s Citizens Review Panel.

Schroeder and Doyle appeared at a disciplinary review board at APD headquarters in downtown Austin.

Schroeder was initially cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury.

She is expected to appeal.
