The Austin police chief has taken disciplinary action against two officers over a police shooting on June 9.
Officer Julie Schroeder has been fired for the shooting death of 18-year-old Daniel Rocha.
Her supervisor at the time, Sgt. Don Doyle, was given a 28-day suspension.
Read the following statements from
Rocha was shot in the back at close range by Schroeder during a police stop in Southeast Austin.
Chief Stan Knee made the decision based on recommendations by the Austin Police Monitor’s Citizens Review Panel.
Schroeder and Doyle appeared at a disciplinary review board at APD headquarters in downtown Austin.
Schroeder was initially cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury.
She is expected to appeal.
