Austin Community College’s Board of Trustees approved a contract late Thursday night to purchase more land for their Rio Grande campus.

The board unanimously approved the contract, which would add land located at 1209 Rio Grande, 1215 Rio Grande and 603 13th Street to the downtown campus.

The land totals about half an acre, according to school officials.

Board members originally approved negotiations in the general vicinity of the campus back in Feb. 2007. In June 2007, the campus formally embarked on a land banking initiative with hopes of future expansion.

Campus officials are purchasing the land for $2.1 million plus additional closing costs.

They are expected to recommend specific uses for the land later this year.
