You have heard about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, but what about Carpie?
Carpie is the giant fish that is rumored to roam the waters of Lady Bird Lake.
Mayor Lee Leffingwell’s office released a video Thursday that called attention to the 15 foot creature. Now, many Austinites are coming out with their own personal sightings of the fish.
Jason Hedlund is a local carp angler who recently took third place in Austin's renowned carp fishing tournament. He said he had Carpie on his line recently, and the fish him gave him quite a fight.
"I set into it and it just took off. The fish ran really hard. It wrapped around a steel pipe that was sticking out,” Hedlund said. “Gosh I mean I was pretty tuckered when I was done. It was well above and beyond anything I had ever seen on the bank. I had two stitches in my upper lip and three in my eyebrow here. Which I've never encountered before fighting a fish.”
Anglers also confirmed that April 1 marks the perfect season for giant carp.
