Austin to sponsor annual Austin Pride Week
Austin City Council passed a resolution Thursday to co-sponsor the annual
Austin Pride Week. That means the city will waive about $11,000 in fees.
The festival has been held in Austin since 2002. According to the Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the events generate between $1.5 million to $2.5 million for the local economy.
Council Member Laura Morrison sponsored the resolution with Bill Spellman and Randi Shade as co-sponsors. The events would promote diversity and equality for the city's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Council members also adopted a resolution to dedicate $90,000 from a cultural arts program to fund the Pachanga Music Festival and Fiestas Patras.
