It's a busy week for cyclists. May is National Bike Month and Monday kicked off Bike to Work Week. The goal is to get more Central Texans out on their bikes for work, school or play.

All week long, bicyclists can take advantage of freebies across Austin. Local bike shops are offering a 20-percent discount on helmets and all week long, bicycle experts will be standing by at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. During the month of May, bicyclist can also join the Austin Commuter Challenge.

"It is a competition, friendly competition, where you compete for trips. So your trading car trips for bike trips and when you commute by bike, you earn points and those points turn into prizes," Chris Carter, marketing director of the Bicycle Sport Shop, said.
