Austin's Solid Waste Services Department has chosen a preferred partner for setting up a single-stream recycling center in the city.

Right now, that job is being done by Greenstar in San Antonio, but its contract expires in September. The City of Austin hopes to have its own center operating by then.

The Solid Waste Services Department has requested Austin City Council's permission to negotiate with Allied Waste Services of Austin to finance, build and operate the new facility.

Evaluators scored Allied Waste Services of Austin highest among seven competitors in the areas of community values, total evaluated cost and demonstrated applicable experience and personnel qualifications.

It also scored highest during personal interviews with city staff. It scored second highest for financial capability and capacity behind Waste Management Recycle America, LLC.
