Volunteers repair comfort home for children
The Austin Police Department and the
SCARE for a Cure foundation teamed up to help Florence Ponziano, a local woman who turned her home into a safe haven for disadvantaged children.
For eighteen years, Florence's Comfort House has provided hot meals, fun activities and clean clothes to children in the Montopolis neighborhood.
Crews did minor repairs to the home Sunday, including caulking windows, fixing ceiling boards and cleaning the yard.
Ponziano said the house needed a lot of work and this job took a team.
"I think when these people come out on Father’s Day it shows their love and positivity, and it shows there's a lot of people in Austin that want to make changes for the better,” she said. “It just makes me feel blessed, because I could never do this on my own."
Ponziano is part of a network of volunteers who provide 'comfort homes' to children in need across the nation.
