There are more than 5,000 Democrats at the State Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi to help build party unity and enthusiasm for candidates.

Some of the Democrats at the convention said they might be the minority party in the state, but there is a growing breed of young Democrats making their mark in Texas politics.

The crowd at a 'tweet up' session Friday was filled with younger people. Many of them have helped put the politicians they work for in touch with the Twitter world.

Annie's List is a group that works to elect progressive Democratic women in the state. The organization has many young women volunteers.

Anne Bradley with the group said she is proud to be part of an effort to change the face of Texas politics.

"To realize that you can make a difference and that it matters,” she said. “For me it has been really exciting to see that the people I have helped elect go onto make policy decisions that affect Texans, women and children in the state, and that means a lot to me."

Much like the Republican Convention, Democrats will elect a new party chair and adopt a fresh party platform.

Bill White is the featured speaker as the first general session gets underway Friday night.

The rest of the statewide candidates will be introduced on Saturday.
