The name Gilbert is well-known in college football. However, out on Lake Travis, there is another Gilbert taking over the spotlight.

Griffin Gilbert is the little brother of Garrett Gilbert, the University of Texas quarterback.

"Everybody calls me Garrett. In the classroom they mix me up a little bit. I'm kind of use to it, but it doesn't bother me anymore," Griffin said.

Griffin is a wide receiver for the Lake Travis Cavaliers. This summer, Griffin helped his 7-on-7 team take Texas by storm. They were finalists in the Red Bull Game Breakers tournament, and they won their first state 7-on-7 title.

"It was definitely one of the most exciting things that has happened to this program. It was kind of a dream come true because none of the teams at Lake Travis have done it. It's a good thing to be the first team at Lake Travis to do it," Griffin said.

Griffin towers over his competition at six-feet five-inches. His height and athletic ability made him an easy target for quarterback Michael Brewer.

"He does a great job throwing it up for me. He just does a really good job so that I can go get it and nobody else can go get it," Griffin said.

Griffin even has the edge over his big brother.

"My family kind of teases him about it; we kid around about it. He's a lot bigger than me, so he can still rough me up a little bit," Griffin said.

So is burnt orange also in Griffin's future?

"I think it's really cool that he goes to Texas, and it would be a dream come true if I could go there too. Any college would be great for me. Every college is in the running right now, and I'd just love to go to any college on a scholarship," he said.

Griffin still has two years to go at Lake Travis, and he has some big goals to achieve before he graduates.

"Definitely two more state championships. As a team, we just want to win five in a row. That would be an amazing accomplishment. I don't think anybody in Texas has ever done it. It would be a great accomplishment for this school and for our team," he said.
