3-alarm fire destroys home west of Oak Hill
The Austin Fire Department and the Oak Hill Fire Department responded to a three-alarm house fire west of Oak Hill in southwest Austin Friday evening.

No injuries were reported and residents were not home when the fire started.

Reports indicate the house, located at 10605 Oliver Circle, is a total loss.

When fire crews responded to the scene, the fire had extended to the roof of the 4,000 sq. ft. home. The fire was upgraded from a two-alarm to a three-alarm fire a little after 6 p.m. to allow firefighters to rotate shifts battling the fire.

Wind pushed smoke and fire through the house faster than firefighters could extinguish it. Fire crews also had to call in tankers for extra water, due to low pressure at nearby fire hydrants.

Structural damage is estimated at $500,000 and content damage is estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
