A Cedar Park police officer has died, following a motorcycle crash.
Leonard Reed, 41, was training for motorcycle service when he was thrown from the vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened at Arrow Point Drive and East Whitestone Boulevard, just a mile from the police station.
First responders performed CPR at the scene before rushing Reed to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
No other vehicles were involved, and no one else was hurt.
Officer Reed was named Officer of the Year in 2008. He had recently transferred to the Traffic Enforcement Division after four years on the force. He had been training for the motorcycle force for about two weeks, according to Police Capt. Jeff Hayes.
He is survived by his wife and two sons. Authorities say funeral arrangements are pending.
Flags are at half staff outside the Cedar Park police station in his memory.
The 100 Club of Central Texas is collecting donations for Officer Reed's family. Contributions can be made online at 100clubcentex.com or over the phone at (512) 345-3200.
It is still not clear what caused the crash. Police were reconstructing the crash at the scene Thursday.
