The Texas Mamma Jamma ride is one day that's meant to help women battling cancer 365 days a year. It’s a day-long affair of solidarity and survivorship.

But Breast Cancer Awareness efforts are peddling way past this event. They’re revving up for a month full of passion, power and pink.

"So, I'm pretty much trying to just rock ‘n roll cancer off the planet," Breast Cancer survivor Cherie Mathews said.

From October 11 to 15, News 8 Austin will take a look at breast cancer treatment beyond the IV drips, infusion rooms and hair loss. We’ll show you everything from pet therapy to fitness. We're giving women the chance to take charge in their battle.

"It makes you feel stronger that you have this inner resolve, that you’re a part of it, you're not a victim, so to speak, and, so that’s important," Breast Cancer survivor Pat Dames said.

If you think cancer is for the meek and mild, think again. Every Friday in October you'll hear stories of the fight or fright and stories of survival.

Five women will share their experience as they took on their biggest challenge yet. The stories share life and celebrate it, because the survivors know they’ve been given another chance.

"[The doctor] had the clipboard that I saw my name on. It had the word carcinoma, and [I] sort of went some place in my head. [I] thought someone has cancer. [Then, I] saw my name on it and said, ‘God, that's me, I have cancer,’" Breast Cancer survivor Teri Pierce said.

Survivors come together and share their stories. They also provide a backbone of support.

"[I love] speaking to other people who run events in town. They all have one thing in common. Let's take care of our ladies. Let's take care of our people, and, I love that. So, I'm on board," Mathews said.
