Nonprofit encourges a love for the outdoors

With so much technology at our fingertips, sometimes our electronic devices can prevent people from enjoying the great outdoors.
That’s where Outdoors Nation steps in. The nationwide initiative works to educate America’s youth about the great outdoors, encouraging them to spend more time hiking, camping and enjoying nature.
"I feel lucky to have the opportunity to come out in a wilderness type area like this and have this time,” participant Julie Munro said. It just feels different. It just makes you feel more in touch with what's around you every day that you don't normally recognize."
A group of local campers associated with the group woke up Sunday ready to discuss ways to get people more engaged with nature. The group moved to the Thompson Conference Center at the University of Texas to present their projects.
Projects included ways to expose differently-abled people to the outdoors.
"It would be a really great service for those that want to get outside, but unfortunately don't have the means," Topher Reilly said.
Outdoor Nation's next summit is in Boston. The nonprofit has hosted the event in most major U.S. cities, including Washington D.C., New York and San Francisco.
