It may be the season for holiday cheer, but it’s also the time of year when a certain tree pollen has many Central Texans sneezing up a storm.

December and January are considered the peak months of cedar season, and because the area received some rain earlier in the year, allergists are not expecting a mild season.

"So now is the time to kind of prepare. We're going to be seeing cedar season really get going in the next few weeks or so,” allergist Dr. Alex Martinez said. “So if people start on their medications right now, it's going to prepare their noses for the upcoming onslaught of pollen that's going to be coming."

If you have pets, Dr. Martinez also suggests bathing them regularly to keep pollen off your animal’s fur and less of it inside the house.

The cedar season typically starts around Thanksgiving and lasts through Valentine's Day.
