Are you a runner looking to get more out of your daily jog?
Team Spiridon is connecting runners with shelter dogs. Their new Jog-a-Dog program allows runners to grab a dog from the kennel and take them out onto the trail for some exercise.
The partnership is with Austin Pets Alive and Team Spiridon. The training takes a total of an hour, and the benefits are countless.
“Exercise really helps the dogs. It really helps the behaviorists work with them because it keeps them calm and burns a lot of energy off,” Team Spiridon member Ron Hill said. “It’s really cool to see the runners and dogs when they get back even if it’s the first time the runner’s been out with the dog you see a visible bond. The dog is looking up at them and they’re all happy, and they’re laying at their feet.”
The dogs are ranked on a scale from one to three, based on how easy they are to run with. To learn more about the endeavor, visit Teamspiridon.org.
